Connery, Brosnan, and Moore top US Favourite Bond Poll

No real surprise that Sean Connery was tops in the CBS 60 Minutes/ Vanity Fair poll  of American’s favourite Bond. What is surprising is how low the current actor in the role ranks with Americans. (Connery 56%, Brosnan 10%, Moore 9%, Craig 7%  )

In the minds of most movie aficionados there is only one James Bond and 56 percent of Americans agree that Sean Connery was the best. None of the others could match the mystique that allowed him to appeal equally to men and women at the same time. Dashing and underrated Pierce Brosnan was next with 10 percent followed by the urbane Roger Moore (nine percent), and the reigning Bond: Daniel Craig (seven percent). The lesser known Bonds, Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby, nearly got .007 percent.

Well maybe not surprising if the US Box Office number are looked at. What’s that you say, Sony had press release trumpeting first Casino Royale‘s, then several years later Quantum Of Solace‘s record breaking US Box Office numbers.  Ah, well no surprise Sony was as most studio have done and will do they were putting the best spin on the situation. While technically Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace did make more money then Die Another Day this deliberately fails to consider ticket cost inflation. Although there is barely a $7 to $8 million dollar difference between the Die Another Day and Casino Royale gross totals, there is a deficit of several million movie goers.

Actually nobody reporting on Hollywood ever questions the gross Box Office numbers, for various reasons. If actual ticket sales were considered James Bond (and a lot of other movie series) had their heyday many years ago. For Bond the 1960’s were the high water marks with Thunderball and Goldfinger

Oh well, its Hollywood bookkeeping and accounting gimmicks, no use getting upset over it. As they say it’s businesses as usual. However this does not explain Craig’s assertion to that Cowboy and Alien was better received and made more money overseas, when the reverse was true (Cowboys & Aliens; Domestic Box Office $100 million, Foreign Box Office $74 million. ). 😉

We used the delicate word “underperformed” to describe Cowboys & Aliens’ box office.

……

“Look, it did pretty good. It underperformed in North America where all the judgment is put, but it did pretty well around the world.”

  1. What? Danial craig is better than dalton ? NEVER
The right order is this one:
    Connery
    Brosnan
    Moore
    Dalton
    Lazenby
Every other actor in the world

    Daniel Craig
    This would be my order…

My opinion is this one: Casino Royale and a quatum of solace are normal action movies… not Bond…
