Peter Morgan: Bond 23 Script was never finished

<![CDATA[In a recent interview with Coming Soon.net Peter Morgan revealed after Bond Producer Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson placed Bond 23 on indefinite hiatus he left the project to pursue other opportunities. In addition to his departure he revealed he never got beyond the initial outlining stage.

Rumours from earlier this year had talk of Morgan walking off because of friction between him and EON’s choice for director Sam Mendes, however Perter apparently stayed on the project until after he was called by EON and told Bond 23 was going to be put on hold.

If the rumour mongers are to be believed Sam Mended, at one time a consultant and possible directorial choice for Bond 23 wanted to bring on his own script writer (Patrick Marber) to the project.

A few weeks ago David G Wilson a EON representative in separate interview commented on the Bond situation, he confirmed Sam Mendes tentative attachment to Bond 23 however he also cautioned it is a matter of timing and availability. On the status of script David admitted it too was stalled, adding Bond scripts often take a year to develop before pre-production begins.

“The script’s been in development for some time. We often start the scripts about a year before pre-production has begun. So the script has been in development but it’s been halted for the time being.” DGW IGN interview October 7th, 2010

No Funding,
Production Officially On Hold,
And Now It Appear No Script To Speak Of
, Bond 23 appears to be a long way off even when the bankruptcy nightmare at MGM is finally sorted out.

CS: I don’t know how much you can talk about this, but as far as working on the James Bond script, how far had you gotten along before they pulled the plug? Did you have a finished script?

Morgan: No, no, no, I hadn’t gotten that far. I was working on an outline when they said, “We’re going to have to stop this process now,” and when it came to the point where I was going to commit to doing the Freddie Mercury film, I sort of discussed with my reps that it would probably take me out of all consideration and that’s what’s happened, and I wish them the best.
