The makers of Spyfall promised it would be one of the year funniest films, perhaps unintentionally so if we are meant to judge by the teaser poster and melancholy trailer just release. Incidentally the teaser trailer at no point told the audience it was an advert for a Bond film. Truth in advertising finally catch them up? No, sadly, it couldn’t have since they used the 007 slug at the very end.<\/p>\n
First thing we noticed about the teaser post was how readily it lent itself to a pharmaceutical product placement. Poor fellow exiting what appears to be sewer pipe looks to be suffering awfully from sever depression. The angst ridden face captured in black and white tells us this indeed must be the case. The Americans must be ringing EONs telephone of the hook, they have a drug for that! And for proper consideration are willing to consent to screen time for their certainly wonderful product.<\/p>\n You know where you are, and you know who we are, so we certainly are going to take the piss out of all the hoopla. While we are only half joking, we are obligated to point out the double speak of recent days.\u00a0 After Quantum of Something We’d Rather Forget<\/em> (The studios and EON are extremely hesitant to mention the last film by name) we were told they would bring back the humour, remember how Craig single handled resurrected the one liner? Also Mendes reassured the audience he wasn’t trying for an oscar and was not making Bond too dark. Then we learn there are a lot of dark elements to the story, from the set designer to the actors on set have let various hints slip about how dark much of the up coming Skyfail is<\/a>.<\/p>\n Well rumours are rumours, yet the teaser poster seems to say, “Yes I am Emo, and Proud!” in big bold letters! ( and surprisingly dour colours)<\/p>\n Today saw the belated unveiling of the official movie trailer, I know what you are saying , oh be still my beating heart. Well there was little to no surprises about it, as it was leaked in great detail at several movie sites, including our forum<\/a>, weeks ago. Reading it and watching it play out before our eyes are two entirely different things. This dreary scoring can’t be what the much vaunted\u00a0Thomas Newman has brought to the table. Can it?<\/p>\n As we mentioned the audience was not let on to the secret\u00a0 this was for a 007 film (no theme music or other familiarities, only a tiny 007 slug in the very last frame), apparently the words SKYFALL alone are enough to envisage the Bond label. The same footage and musical accompaniment could easily be rearranged to be for say a remake One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest<\/em>.<\/p>\n The institutionalised Craig has dark dreams, suicidal thoughts lead him to rooftops, in the trailer he is flunking a special evaluation, he turns violent when questioned. So at risk he can not be trusted with a razor, thus the nurse is shown shaving that awfully scraggly “beard” off his craggy mug.<\/p>\n Look we criticize because we care about Bond. The fifty years of\u00a0heritage whittled down to a mere forty is no accomplishment. Nor is the loss of legacy for all the men who played him or the writers, directors, and producers who contributed to the rich history. Not to forget Ian Fleming who wrote the books and helped set the tone the movies should follow by his involvement establishing the series.<\/p>\n The hard truth is this is no longer Ian Fleming’s James Bond, nor Cubby Broccoli & Harry Saltzman’s 007, what we are left for the time being with is Barbara Broccoli’s “Bond”.
