The Bond Heineken controversy refuses to ‘just be a good boy and die’. While we have not had a lot to say about this issue… yet (problems with consume rental and hiring\u00a0 a marching band for the press conference), Maud Adams (Octopussy) has weighed in. She like many other fans have a big problem with the Bond franchise selling out the traditional Bond image for a sponsor.<\/p>\n

The 67-year-old Swedish actress starred opposite Roger Moore in two Bond films, ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ and ‘Octopussy’, and she is unimpressed that current 007 Daniel Craig will be seen supping a Heineken instead of his trademark Vodka Martin cocktail after Heineken USA agreed a deal to be featured in the movie.<\/em><\/h4>\n
Maud thinks the change of drink will make the suave British spy appear less elegant.<\/em><\/h4>\n
She told Swedish entertainment magazine EXTRA: ”Even though it’s a good beer, this has gone too far.<\/em><\/h4>\n
”Martini was something elegant when I served Roger Moore and it is elegant to this day.”<\/em><\/h4>\n
in ‘Octopussy’ Maud played the jewel smuggling title character and was seen on screen serving Roger one of the iconic drinks.<\/em><\/h4>\n
As part of Heineken’s deal Daniel will also appear in character for a TV commercial for the drinks brand which will air all over the world and will be created by Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam with ‘Skyfall’ director Sam Mendes acting as a consultant.<\/em><\/h4>\n
The 44-year-old actor will also appear as the spy on special packs of the beer.<\/em><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Some reports have The Bond Heineken deal as a $45 million dollar promotion,\u00a0 we have not been able to confirm this figure, we believe some news sources may be confusing the total product placement income for Skyfall with this one deal.<\/p>\n
MGM & Sony has produced a new agreement to raise \u00a330 million from product placement.<\/a><\/p>\n

No question the tough financial conditions, the shaky health of MGM, and bloated cost of producing the Bond movies have driven the Bond makers to make concession they would not have made in previous years. Craig’s salary alone is \u00a38 million, not counting producers fees this and other fees the director or other actors might be getting the movie starts production with a huge deficit. As Craig himself pointed <\/a>out these movies cost a lot to make and at least as much to advertise. No small wonder the porducers seek to off set the cost of production by selling product placement, which is increasingly becoming more of a bother to fans because the Bond franchise does not have a healthy record of\u00a0seamlessly including products.<\/p>\n
And it’s not like Heineken has track record of subtle advertising either: Austin Powers Heineken commercial <\/a><\/p>\n
