\"Archer007\"<\/a>A few weeks ago the EON team proudly\u00a0released a teaser poster for their new film Hydra, n<\/em>o, wait sorry. S.P.E.C.T.R.E, I meant SPECTRE<\/em>, their mascots are so similar it is easy to confuse them.<\/p>\n

Aside from the computer generated looking Craig (photoshopped\u00a0to the extreme) what got the attention of the younger generation was the “Tactical Turtleneck” Craig was wearing. I can hear you asking\u00a0the same question\u00a0on all of our minds “‘Tactical Turtleneck’<\/strong>\u00a0what the heck is that?”. Well instead of seeing\u00a0an homage to Roger Moore in Live and Let Die<\/em><\/strong>, which was itself an homage to Steve McQueen in Bullitt (<\/a><\/strong><\/em>click here for more on the Evolution of the Spy Turtleneck)<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.\u00a0What the\u00a0Twitter generation saw was the Bond franchise copying one of cable TV’s most beloved animated spies, Archer<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Archer<\/em> for those of us unfamiliar the premise of the show is\u00a0an animated show aimed squarely\u00a0at adults, parodying the spy genre, including television and movies, from the 1960’s to today.\u00a0Especially Bond, which we believe\u00a0must have inspired the show.<\/p>\n

In an odd way\u00a0this is\u00a0a fitting irony since the 007 series over the course of its history blatantly copied many\u00a0modern trends. Most notably of recent times Batman Begins<\/em> and the Bourne<\/em> movie franchises.<\/p>\n

Apart from telling those pesky twitter generation kids to get off our lawn and stop listening to the Beetles so loud there is not much we can do. After all Bond didn’t invent the turtleneck, he only used it after somebody else more daring\u00a0made it cool.<\/p>\n
