James Bond didn't need a reboot, but this website did. Its origins were as a site arguing that Pierce Brosnan should be kept on as Bond and calling for a boycott of Casino Royale. However, the consensus on our forum was that this no longer reflected our aims as an online community. This site has acquired a new function. Casino Royale created a sort of herd mentality on other Bond fansites. Those critical of the current orthodoxy on Craig have been made to feel unwelcome on the traditional James Bond forums and most have either left, had their account deleted, or stopped posting altogether. The Daniel Craig is not Bond forum provides a haven where people are free to debate the current direction of the Bond franchise in a democratic fashion.

THIS IS NOT A DANIEL CRAIG HATE SITE. Daniel Craig is not the devil, merely a talented actor who we feel was miscast as James Bond. For some of us, the issue is the fact that he looks so unlike any of the previous actors to play the role or any general conception of James Bond. Others feel that he appears too uncouth compared to the suave Bond we know and love. This was a widespread view when his name was first linked to the part, even from those who mysteriously fell into line when he was cast in November 2005.

Many of us are also unhappy at the decision to "reboot" the series, ignoring the previous 20 Bond films and starting the series again from scratch. We feel this was an unnecessary and cynical move, aimed at expanding the fanbase by disparaging a series of films that we love. Whilst few of us would object to the series changing to reflect audience tastes, Casino Royale and its attendant publicity seemed to send out the message to long term Bond fans that the previous films were all rubbish and you were idiots for enjoying them. Casino Royale set out to be a Bond film for people who don't like Bond films. Well, that ain't us! If this is Bond 2.1, then we preferred Bond 1.0.

Quantum of Solace Teaser Trailer

The Quantum of Solace teaser trailer has been released. Those people who were unhappy with Craig's casting as James Bond are predictably underwhelmed by the trailer. But even though he still looks nothing like James Bond, and is still presumably playing the strange old "rookie" Bond from Casino Royale, some "anti-Craig" Bond fans feel Quantum of Solace will be a good high octane action movie, so therefore moderately watchable if not strictly a James Bond film: where this leaves those Bond fans who loved the so-called gritty and realistic feel of Casino Royale is another matter!

Critics of Eon's new direction for Bond felt the trailer showed that Quantum of Solace will be even more of a Bourne rip-off; the lack of Bond imagery was also apparent - with Craig looking nothing like Bond and his unBondlike use of a machine gun.

Quantum of Solace looks to be another generic action movie with a generic Bourne type action hero played by Daniel Craig.

Tony Blair played by James Bond

When author Robert Harris published The Ghost, a political thriller about the nefarious deeds of a former prime minister and his freebie-loving wife, many read it as a thinly veiled attack on his one-time friend, Tony Blair. If indeed that was the case, Blair can at least take some comfort from the fact that the actor who will be playing the PM character in a screen adaptation of the novel is Pierce Brosnan, erstwhile James Bond and all round babe magnet.

In Harris's book, the premier is described as a man of little conviction, slavishly subservient to an incompetent US president, touchy about references to his student acting skills and with a brainy wife who "loved their summer freebies in the Caribbean". The "brainy wife" in the film will be played by Tilda Swindon, best known as an evil witch in the Narnia Chronicles, which some are saying is a perfect preparation for any portrayal of Cherie.

EDINBURGH (Reuters) - Sean Connery is set to shake and stir this year's Edinburgh Book Festival by unveiling an autobiography on his 78th birthday.

The Scottish actor who defined the role of secret agent James Bond and his literary collaborator, film maker Murray Grigor, discuss the book at the festival on August 25, organisers said on Thursday.

Craig suffers 'jinx'

Actor Daniel Craig yesterday cut off part of his finger in the latest incident on the "jinxed" 007 film.

Mr Craig was filming the new film Quantum of Solace at Pinewood Studios, Bucks, when he cut off the tip of one finger in an action sequence.

The incident is only the most recent in a string of accidents that the film has suffered.

A week ago, a collision left a gash on the actor's face that required eight stitches.

Last weekend, a fire broke out on set, which severely damaged an outdoor Bond set at the studios.

China's tortured victims on display in C.R.?

Under pressure from officials, a company is offering its customers their money back after exhibiting plasticized humans that could be the bodies of China's persecuted victims.

According to an ABC News report, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said the company might be displaying "the remains of individuals that may have been tortured and executed in China."

Some might remember the exhibit prominently featured in Casino Royale.
No word yet if Bond producers will refund all who paid to see this travesty.

Leonardo DiCaprio as Ian Fleming

Leonardo DiCaprio may star as Ian Fleming in a biopic of the James Bond creator.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the actor's production company Appian Way recently jumped on board to produce the film, based on the script Fleming by Damian Stevenson.

Producer Andrew Lazar said a film about the life of Fleming had the potential to be "fascinating".

The first James Bond movie, Dr. No, is being adapted as a radio drama by the BBC, which plans to air it on May 24 to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ian Fleming, Bond's creator. Dr. No was Fleming's sixth spy novel, published 50 years ago. Toby Stephens, who played the villain in 2002's 007 flick Die Another Day, will play Bond in the BBC audio drama. David Suchet, who played Hercule Poirot in the Bbc-tv series based on the Agatha Christie detective stories, has been cast as the villain, Dr. No. BBC Radio said that on the same night it also plans to air an audio documentary, James Bond, the Last Englishman, in which David Cannadine, director of the Institute of Historical Research at the University of London, will argue that the Bond novels have played a key role in shaping his country's self-image.

Comninos suffered a fractured cranium during the filming of a dramatic 15-minute car chase which opens the �Quantum of Solace.'

His co-driver, Bruno Verdirosi, was also treated in hospital but is not said to be in a serious condition.

A helicopter on standby during the filming flew the seriously injured stunt driver to Verona, where he underwent surgery, said town spokesman Marco Girardi, who also was acting as a liaison to the production company.

He said the driver suffered serious head injuries.

Rare Aston Martin Fished Out Of Lake

The car being used in the latest James Bond film plunged into a lake in northern Italy while being driven to the set.

Producers say the driver of the Aston Martin (Fraser Dunn) was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. They say James Bond's iconic car was being delivered to the filming unit in heavy rain on Saturday morning when it went off the road and plunged into Lake Garda.

Teacher Ben Appleby, who lives near the scene, said: "The car was travelling very fast on an extremely narrow and bendy road. It's a dangerous stretch so it's not surprising something happened."

Italian state TV has shown footage of the smashed, black car being hoisted out of the water.

A stunt driver has crashed the car used by movie secret agent James Bond into Italy's Lake Garda during filming of 007's latest movie, Quantum of Solace.

The driver was delivering the iconic Aston Martin DBS to the film scene in heavy rain when he lost control around one of the lake's narrow curves.

The driver was quickly rescued and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Italian TV showed the car, reportedly the only one available for use in the film, being winched out of the lake.

Filming for the movie - starring Daniel Craig as the latest Bond - has already taken the crew to England, Panama, Chile and Mexico.

The newest film in the long-running 007 franchise is to be released later this year.

James Bond Crew Escapes Gang War In Panama

Daniel Craig had a narrow escape on the set of the next Bond film Quantum of Solace after a gang war kicked off in Panama, reports WENN.

A gun battle erupted between rival gangsters during filming for the 22nd franchise installment in Central America and cast and crew were caught in the crossfire.

EON Productions, which produces the Bond movies, has hired armed guards in to protect cast and crew in case of further violence.

A representative for the company said: "Armed guards have now been called in to guard the film's cast and crew in fear of further attacks."

Daniel Craig is insisting he is a friendly guy.
Strange 'friendly guys' usually do not have to insist that they are friendly.
In a follow up to CRAIG IS AN A***, Daniel Craig rather wanting in the humour department., 007 Dan looking glum, Craig sick of Martini offers. & Daniel Craig is unfriendly on the set of his movies. Not to mention the numerous interviews where he was described as glum or shown as much life and charisma as a Kipper on a cracker (as we saw in his Letterman interview of 2006).

This correspondent does agree that a fan following anyone to the bathroom to take a photo of them is going to far.
However Craig's previous behaviour does not leave me with much hope that his irate behaviour is actually because of something 'fan' has done improperly.

Daniel Craig said, "People try to take pictures of me when I'm having a (expletive) and it's not welcome and never will be"."I have to keep hold of my sense of humor, because you can lose it very quickly and start retreating into yourself - then you can't go anywhere unless you're with armed guards".

Craig has a history of griping about his fans. The star recently revealed he wears a disguise to the pub to stop people recognizing him. "I wish, sometimes, I could just go sit and spend the afternoon in the pub", Craig said. "Well, you know, if I'm quiet and I wear a hat, a pair of sunglasses and a false beard, I could probably get away with it".

Daniel Craig recently said he hates being branded "difficult" by the media. Daniel Craig says that he does not like being projected by the media as a moody actor because this image almost cost him James Bonds role in "Casino Royale".

PETA encouraging the boycott of Bond 22

DCinB received a copy of a letter from PETA encouraging the boycott of Bond 22 now known as Quantum of Solace.

We agree that glamorizing the cruel Il Palio horse race is unacceptable.

According to news reports, this portion of the as yet unnamed film has been completed, so at this point, the best weapon we all have is to not buy a ticket when the movie comes out.

Perhaps this is where 'the Bond curse' began.
Or did it begin in 2006 when the studio burned down?

James Bond has kept Britain safe from the world's villains for years. But now the spy has a new role � helping deliver the nation's letters.

Royal Mail unveiled a set of stamps yesterday that feature the covers of Ian Fleming's Bond novels. They will go on sale from Jan 8 to mark the 100th anniversary of the author's birth in 1908.

Fleming wrote 14 Bond novels, which have sold more 100 million across the world.

The six that will be depicted on the stamps, which will feature different editions of the same book, are Casino Royale, Dr No, Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, For Your Eyes Only and From Russia With Love.

Corinne Turner, of Ian Fleming Publications, said: "It is a privilege for Ian Fleming's novels to be celebrated by the Royal Mail special stamps' programme.

"James Bond once again in the service of his queen and country: the first of many new adventures in 2008."

Julietta Edgar, Head of Royal Mail Special Stamps said: "Fictional heroes don't come much more famous than James Bond, so it's entirely appropriate that we start our 2008 special stamp programme by honouring his creator, Ian Fleming."

Fans can also look forward to a new James Bond novel, Devil May Care, which has been written by Sebastian Faulks.

Actress Lois Maxwell, who played Miss Moneypenny in 14 James Bond movies, has died in Australia aged 80. Bond star Sir Roger Moore, who had known her for more than 60 years, spoke to the BBC about his friend and co-star.

I'd known Lois from the beginning of my acting career, we were both drama students at Rada in 1944 and 1945.

We first played opposite each other in Pride and Prejudice. I was Darcy, she was Elizabeth. She was a very fine actress with a great sense of humour.

I think it was a great disappointment to her that she had not been promoted to play M. She would have been a wonderful M.

Lois was wonderful, absolutely perfect casting. It was a great pity that after I moved out of Bond, that they didn't take her on to continue in the Timothy Dalton films.

She had a tremendous sense of humour. She used to sing dirty songs, from the Canadian women's army in which she'd served.

We'd done a number of episodes of The Saint and The Persuaders together, so over the past 60 years I'd seen a great deal of her. But unfortunately, not over the last couple of years.

She had a quite a wide range of parts before she went into the Bond franchise. I'm afraid she got sort of typecast as Miss Moneypenny, that's what producers do, unfortunately, they put people in categories, they don't seem to move people out of them.

At the National Movie Awards, I presented an award to [Bond producers] Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson. It's a pity the timing was so bad, we really could have given her a tribute then.

Sir Roger Moore was talking to BBC News 24 and to Radio 5 Live's Worricker on Sunday programme.

SYDNEY (AFP) � On screen, Lois Maxwell played the woman James Bond never seduced, Miss Moneypenny. In real life, she was more than his match -- an adventurous traveller, an entertainer, and a flirt to the end.

Her death on Saturday at Fremantle Hospital, in Western Australia, from a combination of lung and vascular disease, followed several weeks of treatment there. She was 80.

The Canadian-born actress, a constant in 14 James Bond movies as the starring role changed hands, took on the Miss Moneypenny role in 1962 alongside Sean Connery in "Dr No."

And she continued to play the secretary to spy chief M, constantly flirting with her 007 agent, until 1985's "A View To A Kill" with Roger Moore.

In a 2005 interview, Maxwell said she insisted when she took on the role that she be allowed to give Moneypenny a "background" and that Bond director Terence Young not "put my hair in a bun and horn-rimmed glasses on me."

The "background" was an unexplained sexual tension between Moneypenny and Bond and the chemistry worked.

"She was my lucky token," Moore told the British broadcaster Sky News after her death.

"(People) who remember the Bond films with Moneypenny will remember her with great affection. She certainly will be missed by me and I'm sure by millions of fans around the world."

Born Lois Ruth Hooker on February 14, 1927 in Ontario, Canada, Maxwell ran away from home at 16 to join the Canadian Army Show.

She ended up in London, where she met Roger Moore at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, beginning what was to be a life-long friendship.

She changed her name in Hollywood, won a Golden Globe award and worked with Ronald Reagan on "Bedtime For Bonzo."

When the first Bond movie came along, Maxwell was an experienced actor in need of an income after her husband, British television executive Peter Marriott, developed a heart problem.

"I had a husband who was desperately ill, with two small children and no money, so I called producers I had worked with before and said 'help me,'" she told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 2005.

Maxwell's life was as colourful as that of her screen sweetheart -- she gained her pilot's licence, went on safaris, travelled widely and sailed across the South China Sea on an armed boat in case of pirates.

She was in Fremantle, near the Western Australian capital of Perth, to visit her son and his family five years ago when she collapsed while out shopping as a result of a blood clot on her elbow.

Maxwell required emergency surgery to save her arm and was so relieved at waking up from the operation and finding her limb intact, she became a fundraiser for Fremantle Hospital and a strong supporter of vascular surgeon Professor Paul Norman.

"We used to joke that he became her new leading man. She used to flirt shamelessly with him," former hospital worker and friend to the Maxwell family Penny Young told AFP.

Young said despite failing health, Maxwell had rallied in recent days.

"The thing about Lois for the family, she was such a strong fighter and in the past she would never give up," she said.

"She had that that attitude of, 'Damn, my heart will continue beating until I'm ready for it to stop.'"

Brioni rep claims 007 will be more casual in Bond 22

He may have worn the world's most famous tuxedo for the past 45 years, but James Bond may finally be loosening up, reports the Daily Express.

Daniel Craig will be donning less formal attire in the 22nd film.

According to the report, a spokeswoman for Brioni, who dressed Craig for Casino Royale, said the star would be in more casual attire for the 2008 film. The company has made Bond suits for 13 years, starting with Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye.

Romain Duris turned down Le Chiffre

French actor ROMAIN DURIS turned down a dream role starring alongside DANIEL CRAIG in CASINO ROYALE - because filmmaker MARTIN CAMPBELL made him take numerous English tests. The 33-year-old auditioned for the part of the villain in the 2006 James Bond movie, but became frustrated when he realised he would have to rapidly improve his bilingual skills. He says, "I'd already done an audition and a test for my English and then they wanted yet another English test. Well, I had other things to do. I was working on Dans Paris and I didn't want to risk spoiling that. I said, 'Do I work like a madman to improve my English or do I say stop?'" But Duris does not regret turning down the role and thinks his replacement, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, did an excellent job as bad guy Le Chiffre. He adds, "The guy they cast is very good. I know I could do it too, but I have no regrets."

New James Bond Encyclopedia flops in UK & US

Today (6th September 2007), the book ships in the UK and retails for £25.00. The hardcover measures 9.25 x 6.25in and runs for 320 pages.

In the USA, "The James Bond Encylopedia" will be released on 15th October 2007 and will retail for $40.
The title may sound familiar to Bond fans, as there was an unofficial "The Complete James Bond Movie Encyclopedia" published back in 1990, and then later updated and re-issued in 1995 and 2002. Written by Steven J. Rubin, the last edition covered every film up to and including "Die Another Day".

Disappointingly, the new official publication comes up short on content with only 320 pages, whereas the previous unofficial volume weighed in at over 500. The twist this time around is that the new official encyclopedia will include over 2,000 pictures, which although leaves even less room for text, will look glossier than previous publications.

This new official variation seems to have failed to pull in the regular Bond audience though, as the title ranks a lowly #1,888 in the Amazon book rankings on the day of UK release.
